Being heavily addicted to email I figured it would be nice to have push email working on my mobile. Since I had a Nokia E61 which supposedly is capable of acting as a blackberry client I expected this to be as easy as calling my provider and having the service turned on. Silly me...
This was back in December of last year. First of all, it wasn't as easy as I thought to even find someone at o2 who actually had an idea what I was talking about, when I requested the blackberry option. After a couple of weeks and some emails to customer service, I did get a reply from o2 saying that blackberry is not available to non-business users. After my threat to switch to anonther provider it took some more weeks for o2 to realize that they didn't want to lose me as a customer.
So, in the beginning of January someone from the business team called me and told me that it is now possible to get the option turned on for me.
This is when the fun started. I then spent at least 20 min. per week on talking to 3rd level tech support at o2 about my E61 not being able to connect to blackberry servers. The final answer they recieved from Nokia last week was that my issue had been escalated to "research and development". I think this is a very interesting answer for a device that is sold in stores for quite some time now and is explicitly marketed as a blackberry enabled device. Considering this blog, I guess blackberry was never really taken seriously at Nokia.
Well, end of story is, starting today, I do finally get email pushed to my mobile, it's just not an E61 anymore. If you want blackberry, get a blackberry device :)
