Last.fm & squeezecenter working again

I am a huge fan of the slimdevices series (aquired by Logitech at some point). What it does is, it allows you to stream your music anywhere in the house with little (or bigger) boxes connected to your stereo or standalone.

Squeezecenter, the server software which provides the streams to the hardware clients has been supporting last.fm for ages, but at some point the listening feature stopped working for me. I didn't really have the time to investigate any further than upgrading all the software to the latest releases, which didn't solve the issue. Today I finally came across the solution

Settings->Player->Audio->"MP3 Streaming Method" should be set to
Proxied streaming

That did the trick for me. Finally, last.fm is playing again! I'm putting this out hoping someone else desperate to get this up and running again will find the information more easily.

I just came across this really good set of slides by David Gillespie on the state of the internet and were it goes from here.

I know it's a lot of slides, but well worth browsing through. For me one of the crucial points is Clay Shirky's quote:

... tools don't get socially interesting until they get technologically boring.

The internet has become mainstream for so many people so quickly while still being in it's infancy compared to other important technological developments of the past centuries.
